The Central Bank of the Republic of Guinea announced on 14 April that 1.05 million of the just issued new notes of 20,000 francs (GNF20,000.2) dated 2024 were taken on 12 April, while they were being transported between Mamou and Kindia, near the border with Sierra Leone.

These are equivalent to 21 billion Guinean francs = USD2,425,000.00, with a weight of more than 1000 kilos (= Lbs 2,200.)

Recently several people were detained, but the notes were not yet recovered.

Banking and law enforcement authorities have the serial numbers of the stolen banknotes.

Extreme care should be taken if these banknotes are being offered.
