After reviewing some 365,000 opinions of European Union residents the European Central Bank has made a preliminary selection of designs for the planned new euro notes.
They include birds, rivers, buildings and famous figures, such as Beethoven, Marie Curie and Leonardo da Vinci.
A design competition is set to take place in 2025 so that the ECB can choose final designs in 2026.
Piero Cipollone, a member of the ECB executive board declared that “we are developing new banknotes because we are committed to cash now and in the future.
