Bank of England announced today that the new polymer banknotes with the portrait of King Charles III will be placed in circulation on 5 June 2024.
Older polymer notes with the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II will continue to circulate, with the new notes being released as needed. This means that the public will start seeing them very gradually.
The public will be able to exchange small amounts of old notes for new ones for a short period.
A series of charity auctions of low serial numbered notes will be held by Spink & Son over the summer. The money raised will be donated to charity.
