Current banknotes of 5,000 francs (CDF5,000.1) are refused by many merchants, and discounted up to 10% by money changers, even though they are perfectly valid.

The Central Bank has issued notices to confirm that the notes are current, but rumors in the market have affected their acceptance by the public.
