The Banque de la République du Burundi has announced yesterday that it has issued new banknotes of 500 (BIF500.6B), 2,000 (BIF2,000.4), 5,000 (BIF5,000.6) and 10,000 francs (BIF10,000.3).
The new banknotes are printed on longer life paper, with an improved segmented security band.
In the denominations of 2,000; 5,000 and 10,000 francs the security seals have been also improved.
Current 2015 dated banknotes of the same denominations remain legal tender until the end of July 2019, and may be spent, deposited to bank accounts or exchanged at par at the BRB.
Afterward these, as well as most older notes, can be exchanged only at the BRB with a 5% fee.
