The Banque de la République du Burundi has issued on 26 July 2022 an improved banknote of 1,000 francs (BIF1,000.5).
The new banknote is dated 06-08-2021, is very similar to the 2015 type, and has a wide segmented holographic security band on front.
Notes dated 2015 (BIF1,000.4), which do not have this type of band will remain legal tender until 26 October 2022. Afterward are redeemable at the Banque de la République, subject to 5% charge.
