Brunei Darussalam Central Bank unveiled today a new family of banknotes to be issued in the first half of 2026.
The new banknotes are expressed in dollars and will no longer carry the “ringgit” denomination. Current series and older notes will continue to be legal tender.
The denominations to be issued are:
BND1.6 1 dollar
BND5.6 5 dollars
BND10.6 10 dollars
BND100.6 100 dollars
BND500.5 500 dollars
Banknotes of 50 and 1.000 dollars will not be issued at this time.
The new notes have upgraded security features, with DOMINO™ tactile embossed marks to assist people with visual impairments to easily recognize them.
Designs used in the current notes have been retained, with minor variations.
BDCB will offer at a later date a variety of numismatic products, such as uncut sheets of 1 dollar and notes with special prefixes.
