Banco Central do Brasil is actively recalling the notes of the first family of reales (BRL1/2/5/10/20/50/100.1,) of which very few are still found in circulation.

Financial institutions accept them in payment or for deposit, but are not reissuing them to the public.

However these continue to be legal tender.
