According to some sources the name of one of the historical figures shown in the new banknotes of 10 bolivianos (BOB10.2) is misspelled.
In the new banknote the name of the Guaraní Indian leader is shown as Apiaguaki Tüpa, while others say it should be Apiaguaki Tumpa.
Some time ago linguists at the Congreso Guaraní have concluded that the correct transliteration of the name is “Tüpa”, but non-Guaraní speakers, unable to pronounce it correctly, use “Tumpa”.
Therefore it seems that the spelling in the note is correct.
