



The new banknotes announced yesterday are commemorative of the 70th Birth Anniversary of King Jigme Singye Wangchuck.
The front of the banknote of 1,000 ngultrum (BTN1,000.3) shows the portrait of Ugyen Wangchuck, the first King of Bhutan, seated against the Wheel of the Universal Ruler, wearing the Raven Crown.
In the back are the Trongsa Dzong, flanked with the Seal of the State and a pair of great hornbills.
The front of the 500 ngultrum note (BTN500.4) has the portrait of the current King Jigme Singye Wangchuck set against the cross-vajra, an ancient Buddhist symbol. The back shows the Punakha Dzong under the Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten and a pair of Bhutan Glory butterflies.
The 100 ngultrum note (BTN100.7) has the portrait of King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck wearing the Raven Crown with nine dragons. In the back is shown Tashicho Dzong topped by the Garuda and the state seal.
