Bangladesh Bank has announced that the new banknotes of 20 taka (BDT20.5), 50 taka (BDT50.9) and 1000 taka (BDT1,000.3) will be available next week on 1 June 2025, while the other ones will be released at a later date. The two smaller denominations are especially needed for the small mint banknotes that are usually given on the occasion of  Eid ul-Azha, which this year happens on 6 June, depending on moon sighting.

Initially these notes will only be available at the Central Bank’s at the Motijheel office, and later at other branches.

Non negotiable specimens will be made available to collectors from the Currency Museum in Mirpur.
