The interim government of Bangladesh has announced a significant redesign of the country’s currency, starting with the 2 taka (BDT2.2), 100 taka (BDT100.8), 500 taka (BDT500.4) and 1,000 taka (BDT1,000.3). The portrait of Sheik Mujibur Rahman will replaced by another image.
The Finance Ministry requested new designs for all denominations of banknotes.
The Central bank will submit new designs in about six months.
Four different designs for each banknote will be submitted.
New notes circulation process is expected to take nearly two years.
Current notes will gradually be replaced with new ones over the next several years.
