The Bangladesh Bank and the government have given their approval to the printing of new banknotes commemorating the “July Revolution” leading to the ousting of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The denominations of 20 taka (BDT20.5), 100 taka (BDT100.8), 500 taka (BDT500.4) and 1,000 taka (BDT1,000.3) are expected to be released in 2025.
The other denominations of 1 taka (BDT1.5), 2 taka (BDT2.2), 5 taka (BDT5.5), 10 taka (BDT10.5), 50 taka (BDT50.9) and 200 taka (BDT200.2) are to be issued later.
Sheikhs Mujibur Rahman and Hasina’s images are to be replaced in all notes by a motif related to the July’s Revolution graffiti.The new notes will also show images of the country’s history, prominent figures and places.
