Bangladesh Bank has 15,000 crore (= BDT150,000 million = USD1,232 million) face value in banknotes of the previous series in its vaults, which is not releasing to circulation for political reasons. They show the portrait of Sheik Mujibur Rahman, which is not a favorite of the new political party in power. New banknotes without his portrait are being printed now, and their issue is due in a matter of weeks, but in the meantime there is great scarcity of cash in the country.
