New limits and regulations have been set for the import or export of cash by travelers.
The import of foreign or local currency, checks and monetary instruments, and precious metals coins in amounts up to USD9,999.99 does not require a declaration. Amounts of USD10,000 and up must be declared. Local currency must be included in the total.
The exports are limited to USD9,999.99. Amounts of USD10,000 or more or their equivalent are NOT allowed and must be exported or transferred through banks or “casas de cambio.”
Minors under 16 years are allowed 50% of the limit.
Family groups can transport a larger amount, as long that each individual carries his amount by himself. Same rule is valid for other types of groups.
The conversion of foreign currency for the computation of the total of each declaration is based on the U.S. dollar buying rate of Banco de la Nación Argentina for the import; and the selling rate for the export.
The most important change in the new rules is that in the past the export of Argentine currency was not limited, provided that it was properly declared if its amount included other currencies exceeded USD9,999.99.
