Given the continuous devaluation of the bolívar soberano that makes the largest banknote in circulation, the 500 bolívares soberano (VES500.1) worth only 14 U.S. cents, there are calls to issue larger denominations.

The three smallest notes, the 2 (VES2.1), 5 (VES5.1), and the 10 bolívares soberanos (VES10.1) are each worth less than half U.S. cent, and are rejected in commerce.
