The Central Bank of Kenya has issued a circular addressed to all banks, in which it requires them to report on a weekly basis all redemptions of old 1,000 shilling notes (KES1,000A/B/C and KES1,000.2A/B/C).

According to CBK there are more than 200 million of these banknotes in circulation. They expect that 83% of these will be redeemed, and the rest will become worthless after September 30.
