In 1689 Austro Hungarian general Piccolomini burned Skopje to the ground, but a view of Skopje has been preserved in the engraving made by Jacopus Harevin in 1594, which appears on the back of the 100 denari banknote (MKD100.1)
Architect Ivan Stojkovski observed that in the image in the banknote the river Vardar seems to flow up. Obviously the image was taken from a negative of the engraving.
